Buck Report Weather Update: Severe Weather Hits Richland County

As of 7:57 AM EST on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina, has issued severe weather alerts affecting Richland County and surrounding areas. What’s Happening?

The NWS has activated two key warnings this morning:

1. Tornado Warning (Expires 8:00 AM EST):A severe thunderstorm with the potential to spawn a tornado has been detected 9 miles southwest of Red Bank, moving northeast at 45 mph. Radar shows rotation, confirming the tornado risk.Impacted areas include:

  • South Congaree

  • Springdale

  • Lexington

  • Red Bank

  • Cayce

  • West Columbia

  • Gaston

  • Pine Ridge

  • Oak Grove

  • Columbia Metro Airport

  • SC State Farmer's Market

Action: Seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, and avoid windows.


2. Severe Thunderstorm Warning (Expires 8:30 AM EST):Severe thunderstorms have been noted along a line extending from near Blackstock to 9 miles southwest of Red Bank. These storms are moving east at 40 mph with wind gusts up to 60 mph.Impacted areas include:

  • Arcadia Lakes

  • Cayce

  • Lebanon Fire Station

  • White Rock

  • Winnsboro

  • Irmo

  • Ridgeway

  • St. Andrews

  • Mitford

  • Lexington

  • Cayce Riverwalk

  • Columbia International University

  • Pine Ridge

  • Liberty Hill

  • Cedar Creek Fire Station

  • White Oak

  • Dixiana

  • Harbison State Forest

  • Blythewood

  • Seven Oaks

Action: Move to an interior room on the lowest floor and stay alert, as tornadoes can develop from these conditions.
